The Right Massage Therapy Techniques for You

Shannon Berrow, RMT

Using massage therapy techniques in combination can provide effective treatment for acute and chronic muscle and joint pain; and Registered Massage Therapist (RMT), Shannon Berrow, provides that right combination of therapy techniques for you.

Shannon believes that a therapist is not “fixing”, rather facilitating, a patient’s body in its healing process. For Shannon this is achieved through touch, tissue manipulation, encouragement of breath, body awareness, patient education and recommendations for self-care.

Shannon’s journey into holistic healing began in 2009 with Reiki training while traveling in Australia. Before becoming an RMT, she completed a 700-hr Spa Therapy Program at the Vancouver School of Bodywork & Massage. Shannon then practiced as a Massage and Bodywork Practitioner in Whistler, British Columbia at the Scandinavia Spa Whistler, as well as ran her mobile massage business. After two years, her desire to learn more about the human body and help her clients on a long-term basis led her to Halifax, Nova Scotia for the 2,200-hour Massage Therapy diploma program at the Canadian College of Massage & Hydrotherapy.

Now a British Columbia Registered Massage Therapist (RMT), some of Shannon’s areas of interest lie in myofascial release, temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD) and headaches. She is pursuing continuing education in fascial therapy, craniosacral therapy and visceral manipulation. For now, each treatment with Shannon will be customized to the patient based on their unique needs, and may incorporate the following:

  • fascial techniques
  • deep tissue massage
  • trigger point release
  • Swedish massage
  • joint mobilizations
  • stretching

Depending on a client’s condition, symptoms and progress, clients may be referred to other health care practitioners, such as chiropractic, physiotherapy, acupuncture or naturopathy for complementary care.
